The 1^st meeting of the Cau Sub - RBO was held by the Department of Water Resources (RRBO) on July 5, 2006 in Thai Nguyen city where is based the Office of the Cau Sub-RBO. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thuat, Vice Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chairman of the RRBO.

It was for the first time members of the Cau Sub-RBO convened since its official establishment in May 2006. The list of 61 members of the Cau Sub-RBO was just approved by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development one day before the meeting and was announced there.

Different discussion contents were addressed by representatives from member provinces including: (i) activities of member provinces on the planning, management, use and protection of water resources in the Cau river basin; (ii) comments on the draft Statute on Organization and Operation of the Cau Sub – RBO; and (iii) comments on the draft design for phase 3 on Support to Capacity building of the Cau Sub-RBO of the 2^nd Red River Basin Sector Project (SRRBSP) funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The Cau Sub-RBO is assisted by the SRRBSP in both financial and capacity building supports so its operations are expected to be soon promoted and effective.

Through intensive discussions, the causes and solutions for water-related-problems in the Cau river basin were revealed and received active contributions from the members. Issues on water resources planning serving socio-economic development in the basin were also presented. Finally, participants contributed valuable suggestions to intensity the activities of the Cau Sub-RBO in coming time.
