Ha Noi, July 13 (VNA) - The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE), in coordination with the United Nations Environment Programme, is seeking investment, especially from international partners and non-governmental organisations, for eight projects on management of mangrove forests in the country.
These projects, which are to be implemented between 2005-2010, will focus on improving the effectiveness of management policies and conducting a thorough survey of the current situation of mangrove forests nationwide. They will also develop models for the sustainable exploitation of mangrove forests and work out complete forest use plans for localities with these forests. Other tasks include to establish protective forest belts within mangrove forests, and build nurseries to preserve the gene pools of trees in mangrove forests.
The main targets of these projects are to improve local forest management capacity and to protect and expand the acreage of mangrove forests, while finding suitable ways to make use of the forests economic values.
