Ha Noi (VNA 20/6/2006) - The Institute of Aquaculture Research I recently proposed to the Ministry of Fisheries and relevant agencies that they should strictly supervise the implementation of the Ordinance on Preservation of Aquatic Resources because four species of fish in the Hong (Red) River are under threat to become extinct.
A survey conducted by the Institute indicates that the output of these species of fish, Lang Cham (Hemibagrus gutattus Lacépède, 1803), Chien (Bagarius yarrelli Sykes, 1839), Bong (Spinibarbus denticulatus Oshima, 1926) and Anh Vu (Semilabeo obscous Lin., 1981) has dropped by 85-90 percent from the output from the 1970s and 80s.
The Institute also proposed for the establishment of a preservation area in the Red River.
